Premios Grammy 2015

Ningún artista repitió premio en las categorías Country de los Grammy 2015, entregados en el Staples Center de Los Angeles el 8 de Febrero. Los trofeos se los repartieron entre Carrie Underwood a la Mejor Interpretación Country en solitario por “Something in the Water”, The Band Perry Mejor Interpretación de un Grupo o Dúo por su versión de “Gentle On My Mind”, Miranda Lambert al mejor álbum por Platinum...

Y la agradable sorpresa de ver a un veterano como Glen Campbell ser reconocido con el premio a la mejor canción por su devastador tema “I’m not Gonna Miss You”, compuesto con Julian Raymond. Un premio convertido en reconocimiento a su persona y su carrera, teniendo en cuenta que cuando se hizo pública la canción en Octubre de 2014 lo fue junto con el anuncio que sería la última. Grabada en 2013, refleja su lucha contra el Alzheimer, cuya progresión desde entonces ha llevado a Campbell a ser ingresado en una residencia desde Abril de 2014. Este homenaje tiene su apéndice en que su propia versión de la misma “Gentle On My Mind” que ha supuesto el premio para The Band Perry fue el tema con el que dio el salto a la fama en los sesenta.

Tembién encontramos otro artista Country claramente destacable en esta entrega de premios, sólo que su trabajo es imposible que pueda ser premiado en competencia con la mediática música que ahora se ampara bajo el calificativo “Country”. Rosanne Cash se llevó nada menos que tres premios en la categoría 'American Roots Music': a la Mejor Interpretación y a la Mejor Canción por “A Feather’s Not a Bird” y al mejor álbum de Americana por The River & the Thread. Una categoría en la que Dave Alvin  y Phil Alvin estaban nominados al mejor álbum de Blues por Common Ground - Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin Play and Sing the Songs of Big Bill Broonzy, perdiendo frente al recientemente fallecido Johnny Winter y su Step Back. El premio al mejor disco de Bluegrass se lo llevaron The Earls of Leicester por su álbum homónimo, mientras el cajún Jo-El Sonnier mereció el premio al mejor álbum de ‘Regional Roots Music’ por The Legacy.

Escarbando en otras categorías destaca Chris Thile, el extraordinario mandolinista de Nickel Creek, que fue premiado por el mejor disco de Música Instrumental Contemporánea gracias a Bass & Mandolin, junto con Edgar Meyer. Además de estar nominado como miembro de Nickel Creek al mejor álbum de Americana por A Dotted Line y a la mejor interpretación de American Roots por “Destination”, perdiendo en ambos casos frente a la mencionada Rosanne Cash. Pero es que además su álbum con Edgar Meyer sumaba nominaciones en categorías técnicas como Composición y Arreglos por el tema “Tarnation” y en ‘Engineered Album, Non-Classical’, una categoría en la que competía con el álbum de Lee Ann Womack The Way I’m Living, siendo ambos superados por el disco de Beck Morning Phase, uno de los destacados de la noche.

Pero la música Country se llevó otro premio, el de Mejor Álbum Histórico por The Garden Spot Programs, 1950 que contiene veinticuatro cortes inéditos desde hace sesenta y cuatro años interpretados en directo por Hank Williams para un programa de radio. Sin embargo las notas del monumental The Other Side of Bakersfield: 1950s & 60s Boppers and Rockers From 'Nashville West' firmadas por Scott B. Bomar se quedaron en nominadas en el premio a las mejores ‘Album Notes’.

Por otro lado Taylor Swift no contaba con ninguna nominación Country, pero aspiraba a premios en categoría general por su tema “Shake it Off” como Canción del Año y Grabación del Año pero fue superada por otro de los grandes ganadores de la gala, el joven británico Sam Smith, siendo también derrotada en Interpretación Pop en Solitario por Pharrell Williams y su “Happy”.
